Counselling

I view counselling as a means enabling the individual to accept the freedom and the responsibility attached to that freedom and to go along with the actions chosen. It is an invitation see how one can live in an authentic way and this in turn allows the client to make choices so as become what they are capable of becoming. The goals set are to let a client see that they are free and for them to become aware of the possibilities before them; to challenge them to recognise what they are doing with their lives and in turn to recognise the factors that block freedom.

By using this approach the emphasis is on understanding the person’s current experience and not on the use of techniques. This means that as a counsellor I am not bound by any prescribed procedures and can utilize other modalities when necessary.. Techniques are only tools to help a client become aware of their choices. And from that they become aware of their potential for action.
